Music and Gender

Most of the music that I was brought up upon was gospel, r and b music, and rap. Majority of the music I listen to is rap; subconsciously doing this activity made me begun to realize that most of the music industry in America is surrounded bye the voices of males. Research shows that in all music categories including dance, country and also pop has a significant difference between the gender ratio. When I was younger and still to this day when I decide to turn on R and B music majority of it comes from female artist so coming into this assignment I thought that the percentage would be closer than rap since the content is mainly violent. However, it says that pop music has the highest percentage of successful female artist at 32 percent with dance following behind it at 21.5 percent. This disadvantage automatically makes it challenging for female artist to become successful in a male dominant career. Throughout this research it shows from the last decade that under 13 percent of female ...

Music and Rituals

I have been to many gatherings and important events such as  "fun"erals, graduations, sporting events, church,  and birthday's; while taking your class help me understand that every song has its own occasion/purpose. In my family we usually play sad songs in the church after viewing the body it feels sad obviously but gives us a sense of comfort as well it almost feels like a imaginary hug. So the music is correlating with the event but contradicting as well which I found is intriguing this moment is almost bitter-sweet. Usually after the funeral and everything is said and done we all meet up at a family's residents and play only happy music there and reminisce. As far as I know majority of high schools/University's have their own alma mater song which is very therapeutic and give a sense of calmness and achievement as the trail and tribulations someone has overcome and conquered. Sporting events songs/chants depends on the team so it is very diverse and multiple...

Hey, my name is DreQuan Guyton. I was born and raised in Gaffney SC but I lived majority of my teenaged years in Spartanburg and graduated from Broome high school. Ummm... I would consider myself the middle child I have two older sisters and one younger brother. I've always been a competitive person and played football from 3rd grade through my sophomore year of high school, wrestled and ran track from my freshman through senior year of high school. When I started running, I began to build an unbreakable relationship with my coach, so I joined the cross-country team my 11th grade year which was a big culture shock for me. The times that I was running seemed to be good enough for me to run in college so here I am now! Now my goal is to graduate Converse and get a degree in Business Management. 1. Most recent music I have a active passion in learning Spanish and become fluent so my favorite category is romance/ R&B. Listening to this music majority of the time will get me use to...
