Big Blog
My first big blog the genre of music that I chose will be talking about is the Hip Hop/Rap industry. Hip Hop was created back in the 1970s born in New York by Bronx. It was organically influenced by African American dancing and was becoming very popular all over the United States. Hip hop definition from the US is that its "a style of popular music of US black and Hispanic origin, featuring rap with an electronic backing". Nowadays hip-hop has another name called rap and now hip hop has a lot more aggressive words being said like violence, sex, drugs, and profanity. But this is the point of hip hop, it is supposed to make you feel cool and confident with the energy and adrenaline rush of pure aggression or resilience. The style rap is used in is very unique I think it's just a young adult's type of music, I'm sure everyone likes hip hop because it's just naturally in our blood from our ancestors growing and being so engaged in the music since I can remember. Now what many rappers say is that hip-hop is black culture because they do it the best and that it is black music, this was said by Dr Dre in an interview where he also said there only one white rapper in his mind that is hands down one of the greatest rappers of all time and it's the great Eminem. Originally Hip - Hop was looked down upon it still is today but I think to a certain degree it's become more acceptable throughout all cultures.
This is an example of Kayne west music which simulates old school and modern combined with the old school rhyme scheme and modern beat. Kayne West is known as a musical genius with the way he tells story of real life events in a abtract way. The reason I am bringing this up is because I just wanted to mention him because he is one of my favorite artists in the hip hop world. I'm going to give an example of one of my favorite rappers and one of his famous songs because it is a great example of hip hop and its old school because I want you to see the difference in how rap was when it first started.
The rapper/Producer Dr Dre mentioned in one of his interviews saying, "rap has changed bringing more type of sounds and more lyrics". The modern hip hop is now very popular with internet and social media being a thing that back then they did not have. With this new technology becoming more advanced there's also some new instruments and most importantly auto tune which hit the industry really hard with early 2000's rappers such as Lil Wayne and T-Pain. Auto tune is a device or facility for tuning something automatically, especially a computer software that enables the correction of an out-of-tune vocal performance. Nowadays modern rappers use auto tune more frequently or often when back then it was rarely used because most artist didn't know how to use it with their style, or they just seemed to not do the new things that could potentially go downhill. I would like to show you the difference from the old rap and new so for my 1st example this song is by lil Wayne and the song is called Lollipop.
Every artist seems to have their own style of music, but it all adds up to being hip-hop and some similar/related. Some artists like to use vocals in their music or at-least try and still tend to sound really. One artist that can pull this off very well is NBA young boy. Young boy is known for his gangster like music and love/sad type music, in either he can pull off his high vocal pitch and make it sound very good which noticeably he uses auto tune as well. When NBA young boy was 16 when he first blew up with a famous know song called 38 baby. But this is my big blog about hip hop, hope you learned something new or at least found this interesting.

Really liked your post about hip-hop. I did research on this as well, and I didn’t involve talking about the musical genius that you referred to as Kayne West. I enjoyed listening and seeing one of your favorite artists and what you think of the genre yourself. Also, I didn’t know NBA young boy blew up when he was already 16, which is crazy thinking of it because I listen to his music. Overall a good post in my opinion!
ReplyDeleteI liked how you mentioned that hip hop is supposed to make you feel cool and confident with a rush of adrenaline. I can also see how other generations look down on hip-hop but it really is becoming more common and accepted with our generation in today's time. I also thought it was interesting that auto tune is more used now than it was back then.
ReplyDeleteI never realized until now that American Boy is a real song. I think because of Tik Tok that song has been ruined for me. But I love the beat of it. I will definitely have to save it for when the Tik Tok audio leaves my head.
